Sacrificed my last chance for salvation,
Throwing it into the fiery furnace
Stoked with the fuel of my folly,
Scattered soot and cinders afterwards
Into a wind grown grey with my ashes
And smiled as the fire slowly died.
I felt a sense of peace in the heat.
Released from a life not worth saving
So I could look beyond the shadows
To great open places under another sky,
Beneath desert skies with sweet winds
Heavy with the scent of sand and sage.
Bright hot days and long warm nights
Were waiting for the Phoenix that rose
From the wreckage that once was,
Separated from those broken molds.
To begin the new the old had to burn
As a token payment for freedom
So I, being a sacrifice in name only,
As I looked up again to the light.
